While summer is approaching so too are higher costs for elevator service.   Large companies will raise their labour rates varying amounts, while all TSSA fees will rise 3% as of August 1st, 2019.

Here are 5.5 ways you can monitor and/or reduce costs:

  1.  Last month the multi-national elevator companies and all other companies under the same collective bargaining agreement in Ontario, came together with the union and penned a new deal.  As a result, look to see your hourly rates increase to account for rising labour costs, fuel charges, and other miscellaneous costs.  Request that a minimum number of hours per service call be reduced where possible.
  2. Request that your elevator service provider perform their maintenance while you schedule your annual fire testing.  This will reduce the typical “hoistway access” charges that are notoriously high.
  3. Defer services calls to regular working hours to avoid paying high overtime charges.
  4. Request that your annual elevator safety tests be included at no charge with any work that is done outside of your contract.  Not all service contracts include annual safety tests.
  5. Do not let signs of water damage linger, to avoid potential fees or orders from the TSSA.

5.5 Limit your exposure to non-compliance charges by having your maintenance logs reviewed on a regular basis, by a knowledgeable professional.

As costs rise, it is a good idea to control them where possible, otherwise large companies will attempt to pass on their indirect overall business costs, to your maintenance agreement. Give us a call to see if we can help.
